a family weekend

Some time to reflect on the last few weeks and share some things that have made me grateful.
No time to be depressed when you are happy for what you have.
************************

a fishing filled weekend that resulted in over 16 fish caught...

a handpicked bouquet by the birthday girl and our pastor's wife that owns a flower shop. She made sure it was completely in our budget and even provided a pink vase to make her feel special. It was completely worth the $10....

finding shells while Daddy and Mark fished. We have never found shells off the local lake so it was exciting to find over 20...

Signing up for our naturepal exchange....

canning over 40 jars of tomatoes and giving the rest to our family and church. After a time of going hungry and relying on food stamps it is so rewarding to give back to people that helped us.

seeing Nanners turn into a caring and considerate little lady. I have struggled with a killer headache the last few days, mostly from the changing weather and upcoming moon cycle, and its kicked me in the tail. I have survived only on the cocktail they give in the ER from home but it leaves me in a bit of a fog and exhausted. Nanners tucked me in last night and rubbed my back telling me to go to sleep. She has a servant's heart and it warms my soul to know I birthed this child and she loves nothing more to care for others...

a pottery painting birthday gift as some bonding time with Nanners and Ryguy...

preparing for Michaelmas and the inner work time to tame our dragons...

What are you thankful for lately?

KCCO: Art therapy

I realized that I have not done a KCCO post in forever. Well not that long but close enough. With my hands flaring up as much as they have and work entering overtime mode 3 months early I have not have the strength to do much crochet or knitting. I did finish one Christmas gift however and started a second so they may be all done in time. I mostly have been journaling lately as I need something mindless to do in this time of stress. My brain is pretty mushy and needs a break for sure. I need encouragement and strength with all of these pressures pushing in on our family so many of them are Biblical based or just happy words or sayings.

I also created a window transparency which Ry promptly crushed me by saying "hey its an elephant!"
When 3 children agreed I had to just shake my head since in my vision its a hedgehog under a tree. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder right?

What have you been crafting lately?

summer update

first day of school photos...

surviving the first week of school...

a trip to the renaissance fair as an intro for Mark for this year and a fun day out with the kids...

my last messy play in the park, a success. I also found fan mail from the local kids thanking my team for the event. It makes me feel super warm and fuzzy to know the kids appreciate what we do, sometimes more than our employers do.

finding photos of smiling and happy faces from our teen mission trip...

finding form drawing shapes at our local children's museum....

an overabundance of veggies from our CSA which has allowed us to give plenty away to neighbors and friends.

fun but relaxing time at our local library...

What are you thankful for lately?

a dog with a tongue up his nose. he never fails to make me smile, except for his excessive screeching at 5 am...

I am sorry for the delay in posts as it has been a madhouse here with mission trips and craziness at work all while battling a fibro flare. More updates on their way!

A weekend getaway

Last year Randy and I took our first weekend getaway and decided we should try to push for it once a year. It never has to be extravagant however just a break from most of the kids. Giddy comes with as he is still nursing but it is much easier to wrangle 1 kiddo than all 7.

We took a trip up to the Mississipi Palasades in NW Illinois. It was a bit more walking than we were expecting as both of us are past the days of crazy excursions. It was around 90 degrees and the humidity was through the roof. Randy can't breathe well with those conditions and I ended with a migraine. We also ended up with a battle wound after Giddy ran into a metal picnic table.
The views were spectacular however the trek to get to the top was sometimes barely worth it for me personally. The Mississippi River is wide and I was happy I could say I dipped my toes in the water.

My favorite part of the camping trip was the butterflies had decided that our camp was their new home. They invaded our tent and landed on us. Giddy obtained his battle wound after he freaked out when one landed on his leg.

Randy and I have decided to not ever take the kids to this state park as you are unable to adventure on your own paths as the entire park is nonstop drop offs and cliffs.  There are also little to no flowers at this park so I was highly disappointed I could not take more photos.

We are hoping for another camping trip in our future when the weather is more cooperative.

My first MCAL {KCCO}

I have taken the plunge and decided to try a new mystery crochet a long{MCAL}. This event is a shorter one, thank goodness for summer called Veronica meets spring. I will be sharing some photos along the way. This is a one size fits all accessory full of color and texture. I am hoping if it turns out well that the girls may all get one to wear to be "matchy-matchy" but in different color combos.

My gauge is already HUGE even with going down a hook size but since it is a 1 size fits all  I am hoping it will be ok.

Feel free to join us as there is a knit and crochet version and hundreds of us participating all over the world!
